At The Egan Clinic, Miss Nienke Warnaar, a consultant general surgeon at Colchester Hospital perform minor skin surgery for the removal of benign lumps or bumps on the skin under local anaesthetic. This can be on the skin surface such as a mole or underneath the skin like a cyst.

What are Skin Lumps (Moles, Skin Tags, Cysts, Lipomas)?

Skin lumps and bumps are skin abnormalities that occur on the surface of their skin or inside the skin layers. These may be classified as skin tags, skin warts or skin moles and can be easily removed by one of our surgeons.
Skin lumps are primarily benign blemishes that are removed for aesthetic reasons. That said, occasionally these lumps and bumps can prove to be a sign of something more dangerous on deeper investigation, and worthy of deeper professional attention.

Please note that some lumps will require additional services, such as imaging with Ultrasound or being send off for histology (to check for cancer cells). We require all moles to be sent for histology.

How are lumps and bumps treated?
​
Skin lumps and bumps are treated by surgical removal under local anaesthetic. The skin lump or skin tag is carefully cut away and completely removed, leaving only a small white or pink scar in its place.
